why isn't there a little pop-up that tells you when something is the "last".
the last kiss.
the last phone call.
the last oreo.
the last hug.
the last time you wear a scrunchy (for some of us the scrunchy will never die, not naming names...krisa-tina...)
the last time for anything.
because i think we should have some sort of warning, so that we can mentally start preparing ourselves instead of one day waking up and realizing "hmm, i kissed that person and then we broke up and i am just now realizing that i will never ever kiss that person again. that sucks because if i had known it was the last time i may have made more of an effort to remember it."
see, taking everyday things for granted is so ingrained in our nature that a little bit of a nudge, a "hey you, pay attention!", a bell, a whistle, a free-range bee buzzing over our head shouting "it is the LAST time" would be helpful. might make us slow down, look a little closer, feel a little deeper. so that when we feel the actual loss, maybe it will not hurt as bad, if we can at least remember what that last phone call was about. or when you last were truly in love.
the last time anything happens, there should definitely be a sign.
ah, and to break up the killjoy mood: a little gem hunter found and shared with me. do not make any assumptions, i just watch it for the animation. so sue me, i like bunnies...

Happy Single's Awareness Day (SAD) !!!!!!
That is all I have to say!
Posted by hcl1 at 11:42 PM | Comments (0)
Alright everyone, first let me start by saying Happy Valentines Day to all. Regardless if you have a significant or insignificant other, or if you are just single, I'm saying it to everyone. This is going to be a longer post.
But here is my deal with V-Day. It puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the guys, because you're never going to get it 100% right. The only thing you can do is not completely screw it up. Get her nothing and you've pretty much screwed up, but get her something overboard and she is going to wonder what you're hiding, OR she's going to wonder if you're going to "pop the question" depending on how serious you are in your respective relationship. The bottom line here is guys don't get a fair shake when it comes to Valentines Day, it is in a sense, an unfair "holiday."
Here is why I say so, there are about three days a year, give or take, that a woman is expecting something fairly significant in terms of a gift. Her Birthday, Christmas, and Valentines Day. There are no such days that a man will be expecting a gift from his woman. I'm omitting his birthday because all a woman has to do is give him a little sex and that can be used as an excuse for a gift. (In fact depending on how good the sex is, she could have a point) But MY point here is women really don't have to worry about jacking things up those three wonderful times a year. Most women will get a gift for their man, but a man isn't going to be upset, or angry if his gift doesn't own up to his "standards," mainly because he doesn't have gift standards. That's more of a woman thing.
I think we can all agree that if a guy misses your birthday ladies, thats pretty much unforgettable, (notice how I didn't say unforgivable, we are all about the positives here people) Christmas, is that special time of the year when guys will spend a bit more on a gift because it is the season of giving. With all that said, why is Valentines Day the ONE day that is recognized as the "Day of Love?" My take is if you show your girl your love and affection throughout the year, your not going to have to feel the need to dig a bit deeper because of things you should have done that you didn't. So guys, we all go the extra mile for our ladies on Valentines Day, my question is, why don't we love her like that the rest of the year?

Scott, when have I ever called you Scotty T? Please...anyway I have to agree with you that the superbowl commercials where not what they should have been. Last year's were much funnier. As for Rolling Stones and the half time show... who do they think watches the superbowl? I'm not a huge fan of the rolling stones, and I think they need to retire. I did like their stage. :)
Welcome to the blog!

What's goin on people? I'm Scott, or as Krisa and her cult like to call me "Scottie T" I don't know, but there is something about that name that makes me feel non-masculin. Anyway, I'll post here periodically about random shit that you may or may not have thought about. Some of the things you may agree with, some of the things you may not. Either way, I love feedback, so don't be afraid to shoot me a comment or two....
So I watched the Super Bowl last night with some great friends and we all had a good time. Commercials were average at best, although the FedEx "Caveman" commercial was pretty hilarious. There is one thing that kinda bothered me about the game. You know The Rolling Stones did the halftime show, and my question is how was Janet Jacksons "wardrobe malfunction" so much worse than that trash? I mean listen to me here, if you are a parent, at least when JJ's titty pops out you can explain to your child what it is and why it was bad for TV. But when they turned Jaggers mic off for the profanity laced lyrics from the song, what do you tell them then? When your child turns to you and says "what did he just say" and "why couldn't we hear it" as a mother your going to have to think fast as to what to say and how to say it. And as a father your going to have to think just as fast, and if you are anything like my father you'll say "Ask your mother." As a former fan of the Super Bowl halftime shows, I really don't think the NFL has done any better since it cut off its partnership with MTV, maybe they should try VH1.

so i realized i had a month's worth of photos to post and ta-da, i took time away from my busy underwater basket weaving homework to share these with you:
bella had surgery and looked like a satellite dish for a few weeks. we put her to good use though...

einstein does not realize he is not old enough to drink yet....algis turned a blind eye when the dog tried to sample beer...

we had to hang out with dino because we have not seen her for ages...

kaya looks at me and wonders why i take so many photos of her...

wow, another playoff game party...i am truly becoming a real football fan. right.
don't worry, i'm just in it for the food.

girls' night in...

a turtle named fish. just inherited/adopted it from a guy at work. fish is cool.

kaya is not quite sure what to make of fish. i am sure they will get along famously...eventually...

so i have to wear glasses for the next month instead of contacts because i have apparently fucked up my eyes by wearing contacts 16 hour a day. the girls are showing support by showing how neato my new calvin klein glasses look...

on all of us...

matt and wendy showed up to complete the party...

so did miss amanda and kevin...

heather and krisa: sister sister...

scotty t took turns driving me...

and krisa-tina slightly batty...

and that's all i have to say about that...

and now for a little mood music. a touch of death never hurt anyone...
or maybe my mood swings more like this? you never know.
heading of to scott's for the game. yes THAT game.
i only watch it for the commercials.
i promise.
over and out.

Now it is often said that the English and Americans are one people separated by a common language.
However, some languages have incredible contradictions without ever leaving their own language.
For example, in the Zarma language of Nigeria the word "hay kulu" means anything, nothing and also everything. Now that's gotta be confusing.
If you were to be in India buying fruit in the Tulu language, you would possibly have some problems as the word for ripe and unripe is the same - Irpadake.
Staying in India, watch out if anyone runs your bath for you because the word for hot and cold in Tulu is the same, Sitoshna.
Now in the Romani Gypsy language, the word for life and death is the same - merripen.
The Norwegian's though have a very interesting contradiction. The word for poison and married is the same - Gift ... curious huh?
In Russian, the word for shopkeeper and shoplifter is the same - Magazinschik.
And the best, has been saved for last. In Veitnamese the word Danh t means both a church and a brothel. Are they trying to tell us something?
For those of you that have enquired about the book, here it is. The Meaning Of Tingo and other extraordinary words from around the world by Adam Jacot de Boinod. Click on the book title to be taken directly to the book on Amazon.
Enjoy it as much as I have!

There are many reasons why I have not been submitting, but I guess the most embarrassing is that I forgot my password. Ha-ha. Oh well, I found it! Jayzn that was one of the best posts ever. I laughed for two hours. Trester kept looking at me like I was ready for the men in the white coats. Jayzn, I love the sayings where did you find them?
As for the other reasons for not posting, I've just been busy. I am in the middle of my first year teaching, and the kids are so funny! I'll post some of their exploits in the future. We recently moved, so setting up a new house always takes some time. I started taking a Tai Chi class and that is an amazingly relaxing exercise. My grandfather was put in the hospital two days after Christmas and was on a death watch for a couple of weeks. He's back to his normal self now at home bothering my grandmother. Lastly, I have been sick. I know these are weak excuses and I promise to be a better blogger. Maybe there's a twelve step program...
Hi my name is Happy.
Hi Happy.
And I am a bad blogger.
Ha-ha
Okay, that should satisfy the blogger gods for maybe a day or two.
Later
